Project Overview
ConceptContemporary art often feels inaccessible to the general public, with many people hesitant to engage with it due to fears of not understanding or knowing how to interpret the artwork. Traditional gallery tours and talks, typically led by curators and artists, while informative, are often perceived as formal and inaccessible. These sessions tend to use specialized language and assume a level of prior knowledge that can be intimidating for casual visitors and those new to the art world. As a result, many potential art enthusiasts feel excluded or overwhelmed.
Led by Mayei, a charismatic 7-year-old, the project will challenge the perception that contemporary art is difficult to understand or appreciate. Through a series of engaging video tours of art exhibitions in Bucharest, coupled with artist-led workshops for children, we aim to create a welcoming space where art is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or experience.

Get to know Matei and his tours
Matei was unexpectedly discovered at an exhibition opening, where he spontaneously took the stage and captivated both the audience present and later, the internet. Despite being raised in a household with no connection to the arts—both of his parents work in unrelated industries—Matei managed to make a significant impact on the local community in just a moment. After a video of the event surfaced, he and his father were invited to appear on the Radio France Internationale show to discuss topics such as art, parenting, and their unique experience. -
Vision and Objectives:
Our mission is to democratize access to contemporary art by showcasing it through the eyes of a child. By doing so, we hope to inspire a broad audience to engage with art in a new, unpretentious way, proving that no prior knowledge or expertise is necessary to appreciate and enjoy art.
Key Objectives:
- Accessibility: Make contemporary art approachable for all audiences, particularly families and those unfamiliar with the art world.
- Engagement: Foster deeper engagement with art by presenting it in a fun and relatable manner.
- Education: Inspire children and adults alike to explore creativity through hands-on workshops led by professional artists.
- Community Building: Create a welcoming environment in contemporary art spaces that encourages participation and inclusion.
The atmosphere of the video series is meant to evoke a dynamic atmosphere , starting with a warm introduction where Matei, the child, is introduced and begins to explore the gallery. These initial moments set the stage, showcasing Matei's natural curiosity. As the video progresses. Matei starts interacting more directly with the artworks. This is where the video's charm truly shines. Matei’s honest, funny, and unfiltered reactions to the art are both endearing and highly engaging, resonating with the audience by voicing thoughts that many might have but are hesitant to express. The humor and authenticity in this section make it the most appealing part of the video. As Matei continues to engage with specific artworks, his insightful and amusing observations keep the audience captivated. The camera captures close-ups of the pieces along with Matei's responses, highlighting his natural ability to make contemporary art accessible and relatable. The video will concludes with Matei offering his final thoughts, winding down the exploration with a more reflective tone. While still engaging, this final section serves as a thoughtful closure to the lively and authentic experience that precedes it.
