Dublă Expunere la Feminin

Press release

DUBLĂ EXPUNERE LA FEMININ is a project supported by BCR and co-funded by AFCN, bringing together some of Romania’s most important female voices in contemporary literature and visual art. Initiated and brought to life for the first time in 2014, the initiative proposes the exploration of narratives in the visual arts and their reformulation into literary language. The 2024 edition revisits the original idea, but this time, the voices are exclusively female. Thus, 10 writers meet in a liminal space with the works of 10 contemporary artists. Each author was invited to reveal a text emerging from a personal investigation, within an infinite number of possible narratives that an artwork can generate.

The exhibition gathers excerpts from texts written by Ana Barton, Svetlana Cârstean, Anastasia Gavrilovici, Ioana Nicolaie, Ioana Pârvulescu, Simona Popescu, Ana Maria Sandu, Moni Stănilă, Livia Ștefan, and Tatiana Țîbuleac, displayed alongside works from the portfolios of artists Beatrice Arzoiu, Geta Brătescu, Suzana Dan, Hortensia Mi Kafchin, Sigalit Landau, Lea Rasovszky, Larisa Sitar, Norica Popescu, Ecaterina Vrana, and Victoria Zidaru.

Visiting Hours After Opening:

PUBLICATION, PODCAST, AND CULTURAL MEDIATION EVENTS

The texts are compiled in a hybrid publication, with a dual identity—both a literature book and a contemporary art album—launching alongside the opening of the exhibition. The writers had complete freedom in their choice of artist and work, as well as in how they decided to connect prose to the image that inspired them. This project represents an invitation to a new type of dialogue between art and literature. In addition to written and visual content, DOUBLE EXPOSURE IN THE FEMININE includes a podcast hosted by Black Rhino Radio, which has already aired 10 of the 20 planned episodes, as well as public events with the artists and writers involved in the project.

DOUBLE EXPOSURE IN THE FEMININE is a point of tension and meeting between two languages through which surrounding realities are decoded, a dynamic platform that stimulates dialogue and cultural initiatives. The project aims to bring the Romanian public closer to contemporary art and literature and facilitates the creation of a common language between the two fields.

The project is co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN). The project does not necessarily represent the position of the National Cultural Fund Administration. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the funding recipient.
