Mobius anunță deschiderea expoziției ROMAN TOLICI – Realpolitik, o expoziție care te provoacă să gândești și să-ți pui întrebări, care sondează adevărata esență a sistemelor politice cheie și a principalelor figuri influente, ce au modelat istoria umană până în zilele noastre.
Titlul expoziției se inspiră din conceptul eponim articulat de Ludwig von Rocheau, un scriitor și om politic german din secolul al XIX-lea. Cu toate acestea, în acest context, termenul este lipsit de conotația sa pozitivă. În interpretarea lui Tolici, realpolitik are de-a face cu strategii politice care sunt adesea intimidante, lipsite de etică sau nemiloase.
Expoziția combină trei serii de lucrări. Seria Negative Flags (Steaguri în negativ) constă într-o instalație video și o instalație de obiecte formată din 240 de steaguri oficiale ale diferitelor entități proeminente din politica actuală, realizate în negativ.
A doua serie de lucrări, cea care dă și titlul expoziției, Realpolitik, cuprinde peste 300 de desene cu cerneală pe tipare de reviste, care înfățișează personalități influente din domeniul politicii globale. Artistul a (de)mascat cu pricepere aceste personalități, trecându-le printr-un filtru de senzualitate obscură și provocatoare. Rezultatul a fost o estompare deliberată a identității lor. Această amalgamare culminează într-un carnaval al puterii orchestrat live, în care aceste personaje converg într-o portretizare orgiastică care transcende timpul.
A treia componentă a expoziției, Vertigo, cuprinde două animații video, fiecare prezentând două simboluri puternice care au lăsat o amprentă de neșters asupra modernității, simboluri care se împletesc într-o relație simbiotică.
Cele trei serii prezentate explorează multiplele fațete ale discursurilor și propagandelor care au formulat filosofia principalelor sisteme politice, precum și personajele care au influențat istoria omenirii până în momentul actual. Expoziția oferă astfel o perspectivă neconvențională asupra politicii globale, investigând-o din cele mai incomode unghiuri. Rezultatul acestui exercițiu propus de artist este dezvăluirea identităților ascunse și expunerea adevăratului chip al Răului. Roman Tolici analizează esența profund susceptibilă a umanității, subliniind, de asemenea, interacțiunea complicată a simbolurilor politice, care par să se nască perpetuu unul pe altul, într-un ciclu neîntrerupt de manipulare și exploatare a puterii.
Prin răsturnarea și scoaterea la iveală a normelor stabilite, aspectele negative prezentate aici transformă expresia artistică într-un demers care demistifică sistemele politice și personalitățile marcante care urcă în vârfurile ierarhiilor. Explorarea artistului rămâne detașată de epocile istorice specifice în care aceste figuri își exercită influența, concentrându-se în schimb asupra impactului lor de durată asupra cursului istoriei umane.
Am văzut la propriu și la figurat în negativ lumea politicii. Este un peisaj care se formulează din politizarea istoriei, în care personajele pozitive și negative sunt fluctuante, în funcție de puterea politică ce impune istoria. În Realpolitik am încercat să elimin orice fel de parti-pris. Nimeni nu e cu adevărat curat, toți purtăm povara istorică a violenței, a cruzimii și nedreptății, indiferent dacă participăm la lumea politică pasiv sau activ. (Roman Tolici)

Mobius announces the opening of ROMAN TOLICI – Realpolitik, a thought-provoking exhibition that delves into the true essence of key political systems and main influential figures that have shaped human history right up to the present day.
The exhibition's title draws inspiration from the eponymous concept articulated by Ludwig von Rocheau, a 19th-century German writer and politician. However, in this context, the term is devoid of its positive connotation. Tolici's rendition of realpolitik delves into political strategies that are often intimidating, unethical, or ruthless.
The exhibition combines three series of works. Negative Flags series consists of video and objects - 240 official flags of various prominent entities in today's politics, made in negative.
The second series of works which also gives the title of the exhibition, Realpolitik, comprises more than 300 ink drawings on magazine prints, portraying influential figures from the realm of global politics. The artist has skillfully (un)masked these personalities with an undertone of dark and provocative sensuality, resulting in a deliberate blurring of their identities. This amalgamation culminates in a vividly orchestrated carnival of power, where these characters converge in an orgiastic portrayal that transcends time.
The third component of the exhibition, Vertigo, encompasses two video animations, each featuring two potent symbols that have left an indelible mark on modernity, symbols that are intertwined in a symbiotic relationship.
The three presented series delve into the various facets of discourses and propaganda that have shaped the philosophies of major political systems. Additionally, they examine the influential figures that have impacted human history up to the present moment. As a result, the exhibition offers an unconventional perspective on global politics by investigating it from uncomfortable angles. The artist's intent with this endeavor is to unveil hidden identities and reveal the true face of Evil. Roman Tolici analyzes the profoundly susceptible essence of humanity while also highlighting the intricate interplay of political symbols, seemingly birthing one another within an unending cycle of manipulation and power exploitation.
By upending and laying bare established norms, the negative aspects presented here transform artistic expression into an endeavour that demystifies political systems and the prominent figures who ascend to the pinnacles of hierarchies. The artist’s exploration remains detached from the specific historical eras in which these figures wield their influence, instead focusing on their enduring impact on the course of human history.
The visual reading proposed by Tolici is an inverted one - the mask no longer has the role of hiding the identity, but of bringing to light the perverse, obscure, and deeply corruptible nature of politicians.
Politics and the wielding of political power often result in the erasure of individual identity. This phenomenon operates on two levels: those who ascend to the pinnacle of the political hierarchy frequently shed their human attributes, morphing into mere instruments of absolute power. They wield the authority to make decisions with far-reaching implications, capable of altering the trajectory of history itself. Conversely, the ordinary individual becomes reduced to a mere statistic, overshadowed by the grand machinery of politics.
I have both literally and figuratively perceived the realm of politics through a negative lens. It is a landscape shaped by the politicization of history, wherein the perception of positive and negative figures ebbs and flows based on the prevailing political power that moulds historical narratives. In my exploration of Realpolitik, I earnestly sought to eradicate any form of bias. No individual remains untarnished; we all bear the weight of historical transgressions, encompassing violence, cruelty, and injustice, irrespective of our level of involvement in the political sphere—whether passive observers or active participants.
